Torpedo Factory: Momento Mori

I am honored to share that my work will be included in the juried show Momento Mori at the Torpedo Factory Art Center. The show will be up from September and be up through November 2019.

The piece that was selected is part of a 3-piece plaster series that shows the gradual degradation of a book over time. I cut into a large book and created a hollow staircase shape inside. Then, I plaster cast inside of the book three times. With each cast, the book got more and more destroyed and the cast became less recognizable.

The series speaks to how our stories slip away when we die. The title “The Ghost Slips Away” represents the fragility of life and memory.

This spring I have the amazing opportunity to show my work at the Torpedo Factory! I grew up in Alexandria and the Torpedo Factory was always a fun, inspiring place to visit.

My show, Study of Emotion, invites the audience to reflect on their emotions and make abstract art in response. I showcase my minimalist self-portraits, Strings of Fate, along with Study of Emotion, a sculptural mood check from a week in my life.
